SBS Won the 2nd Prize in 2017 China University Business Challenge – International Trade & Trade Exhibition Competition


From May 25th to 29th, the 2017 China University Business Challenge – International Trade & Trade Exhibition Competition (International Trade Competition) was held at Ningbo International Conference and Exhibition Center. Lin Lina, Vice Party Secretary of SBS College of Commerce and Economics Party Branch, Zhang Yali, Director of Department of International Economics and Trade, and Zhang Li, Yuan Meiqin, and Liang Shuang, faculties of Department of International Economics and Trade led student teams to participate in the competition and won the 2nd prize.

University leaders, Academic Affairs Office, Department of Finance, and College of Commerce and Economics gave full human, material, and financial support to the competition. With the careful guidance from the faculty team of College of Commerce and Economics in 3 months, the students first took part in the “2017 China University Business Elite Challenge for International Trade Knowledge” and received the highest score of 99 in the group competition. Then, after 90-day hard training and 3-day fierce competition in four sections, obtained a National 2nd prize and successfully realized the goal.

International Trade Competition is one of the three major comprehensive competitions for professional skills, a national and international level subject competition and innovation practice organized by Ministry of Education Higher Education Guidance Committee on Economics and Trade, CCPIT Sub-Chamber of Commerce, China General Chamber of Commerce, China Convention, Exhibition & Event Society. It is at the same time the largest competition on international trade in China. The competition is held together with the 2017 China (Ningbo) International Sourcing Fair & China (Ningbo) Brand Products Expo. 176 standard booths have been set up and the exhibition covers an area of 8000m2. The competition has been developed into a platform for cross-major comprehensive training and innovative practice and teaching with “most in-depth university-company cooperation, most direct industry-academics interaction, and most wide international communication” in the field of  international trade education in China.

The competition has attracted 166 teams with a total 1600 students and guidance teachers from 108 higher education institutions and 22 provinces of China to enter the final. The competitors include students and faculties from China, Moldova, Bangladesh, Samoa, Fiji, Madagascar, Nepal, the Republic of Congo, Zimbabwe, and Zambia. The institutions participating in the competition include Xi’an Jiaotong University, Sichuan University, Shanxi University, Hunan University, Anhui University, Heilongjiang University, Shanghai University, University of Shanghai for Science and Technology, Shanghai Ocean University, Shanghai Lixin University of Finance and Accounting, Shanghai Polytechnic University, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics Zhejiang Campus, etc.

The rubrics for the final round of the competition is as follows: 10% on Business Plan for International Trade Exhibition (in Chinese), 20% on Booth Design and Commodity Display for International Trade & Commodity Exhibition, 20% on Presentation on International Trade Products (in English), and 50% on Business Communication during International Trade & Commodity Exhibition. Its comprehensively evaluates the capabilities of English, knowledge on contract, negotiation skills, presentation on stage, booth design, and team coordination. After the competition, participating students all indicated that they have learnt a lot of professional knowledge and practical experience that were not available in course learning, and the competition has greatly improved their capability in practicing, communication, and team working. They all believed that this is a platform to effectively integrate theory and practice, and to showcase themselves, where the capabilities and spirits of SBS Department of Economics and Trade students have been fully demonstrated. On the other hand, during the communication with other universities and institutions, the teams have found their deficiencies and direction for improvement in the competition, which gives helpful reference to the construction and development of department of economics and trade.

The successful participation in the competition greatly pushes forward the university-company cooperation of College of Commerce and Economics, encourages the integration of industry, academics, and research between department of international economics and trade and companies in the industry, deepens the reform on practical education, improves the education capability of teachers in practical education, and greatly improves the overall quality and career competitiveness of students, which lays a more solid foundation for the future cultivation of more and better application-based, internationalized, innovative, and integrated talents. The competition is also another check on SBS and College of Commerce and Economics on their focus of practical teaching and encouraging students to participate in all kinds of high-level skill competitions.
